AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR® Synthetic EP Lubricants are excellent for severe applications, such as towing, hauling, steep hill driving, commercial use, plowing, racing, off-road use, rapid acceleration, frequent stop-and-go operation and high ambient temperatures.

Higher horsepower, towing and hauling capabilities of modern vehicles make turbo diesel pick-ups, SUVs, vans and delivery/utility vehicles especially prone to severe service. Other severe duty vehicles include light, medium and heavy-duty trucks, buses, heavy equipment, 4X4s, tow trucks, race cars, tractors, and motorhomes.

These state-of-the-art AMSOIL formulations feature an exclusive blend of high viscosity, shear stable synthetic base oils and an extra treatment of high-performance additives. AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR® Synthetic EP Lubricants maintain their viscosity for long-lasting protection against metal-to-metal contact. The proprietary AMSOIL additives form an iron-sulfide barrier coating on gear surfaces, providing the ultimate line of defense against wear, pitting and scoring. AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR® lubricants help prevent “thermal runaway” — a phenomenon caused by a lubricant’s inability to control friction and increased heat under high-stress conditions. By controlling thermal runaway, AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR® Synthetic EP Lubricants inhibit rapid lubricant degradation and component damage. Temperature Extremes
AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR® EP lubricants excel in hot and cold temperature extremes. By design, they resist breakdown from high heat, preventing acids and carbon/varnish formation. Their waxfree construction also improves cold flow properties, improving fuel economy and cold weather shifting.

For product service life in differentials, consult your owner’s manual or the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) to establish the application, NORMAL or SEVERE.

Heavy Duty Class 8 Line Haul Follow the OEM drain interval (miles or hours) for synthetic oil up to 250,000 miles or 3 years, whichever comes first. Otherwise, drain at twice the OEM interval for conventional oil.
Heavy Duty Off-Road Vocational Follow the OEM drain interval (miles or hours) for synthetic oil up to 120,000 miles or 1 year, whichever comes first. Otherwise, drain at twice the OEM interval for conventional oil.

For product service life in non-differential applications, consult owner’s manual or the OEM for either normal or severe synthetic oil service intervals. Where service intervals are unavailable, drain at twice the interval for conventional oil.

Gear oils should be changed more frequently when operating vehicles or equipment in dusty or dirty conditions unless the gear system is properly sealed and equipped with membrane type breathers.

Note: AMSOIL does not support extended drain intervals where water contamination occurs. Check and service the gear oil frequently when water contamination is possible.

Recommended for use in differentials, manual transmissions and other gear applications requiring any of the following specifications: API GL-5, MT-1, MIL-PRF-2105E, Dana SHAES 234 (Formerly Eaton PS-037), Mack GO-J, or the differential (hypoid) gear oil specifications from all domestic and foreign manufacturers such as GM, Ford and Daimler Chrysler. Can also be used in axles where an API GL-4 lubricant is recommended.

AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR® (75W-110) provides superior performance and replaces competitors’ 75W-110, 75W- 90 and 80W-90 gear oils. It delivers better viscosity protection than SEVERE GEAR 75W-90 and better fuel efficiency than SEVERE GEAR 75W-140.

AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR® is compatible with conventional and synthetic gear oils. Mixing AMSOIL gear oils with other oils, however, will shorten the oil life expectancy and reduce the performance benefits. AMSOIL does not support extended drain intervals where oils have been mixed. Aftermarket oil additives, other than those specified by AMSOIL, are not recommended for use with AMSOIL gear oils.

AMSOIL SEVERE GEAR® is compatible with most limited slip differentials. If limited slip differential chatter occurs, add AMSOIL Slip-Lock™ friction modifier additive.

Only oil I use in my hot rods or daily drivers

Gears are quieter and runs cooler I run this in my daily drivers and my old cars example 670 hp Cuda that I road race, I do have to add the limited slip additive for it not to chatter

Great gear oil.

Installed in my awd ptu on a 2012 Taurus sho. 75w140 is recommended but the severe gear 75w140 holds up well for my 30k mile change interval and I don't worry about it thickening. This ptu is in a very high heat zone near the catalytic converters and it beats up the lube, turning it to paste in about 50kmiles. Now with catless down pipes (40°f+ lower ptu temps) I don't need 75w140. The 75w110 severe gear is working great, and I notice less drive train drag than with the 75w140.

Slick stuff!

I replaced the 85w140 conventional in the 14-bolt full float rear axle in my '85 GMC with Severe Gear 75w110 and noticed the difference immediately! Gained at least 15 horsepower. Good stuff!

A must have for trucks that work!

Simply the best hands down. My trucks tow heavy in the most extreme heat conditions, this can be torture on gears. I typically run my trucks to about 500k then replace them. To date I have never had a single issue in the rear end at all, other than the occasional pinion seal. Do yourself a favor and step up to real protection.

got another 70000 miles out of it .I was sold been using it in every vehicle sence. When you do all your own service work yourself you notice where n tear on internal parts, and i've got to say the products from amsoil When you rely on your truck to make a living and cant afford break downs. You only put the best product in it. I've used other products in the past. but one slipping transmission and switched to amsoil products. Replace that "Universal" oil out of your H-D trans NOW!

I use AMSOIL Severe Gear 75W-110 in the 6-speed transmission of my 2009 H-D Road King. The SYN-3 oil installed at the factory made the transmission noisy and hard to find neutral when it was warmed up. Since I starting using AMSOIL Severe Gear 75W-110 over 24,500+ miles ago, my transmission has stayed much quieter, shifts without "clunking" and finding neutral is still a breeze.

Waited for this new SAE spec 75W-110

This is at the upper end of a 75W-90 gear oil - right in line with the old 75W-90 rating, as modern 75W-90 synthetics are usually too thin.
Quieted down a moody 1981 Dana 44, and required a minimal amount of friction modifier for a rear Chrysler 9-1/4".
